Winter Wonderland!

Well, winter is here now ! Following last weekends snow we've got about 40cm or so at Chalet level (just under 900 metres) and it is Winter Wonderland! The temperatures have been cold though not excessive (minus 3 at the chalet for the last couple of nights) and there is masses of ice building up on the ice climbs in the Vallon de Sales (seen from the lounge window!). There is a lot of activity on the ski pistes at Sixt Fer a Cheval and on the Piste de Cascades with the workers preparing for the imminent season (scheduled opening 19/12/08). We've already had a good build up in October and early November with several snowfalls that had left a good snow base above 1800 metres or so. So its looking like a very good start to the season... Haven't been out in the white stuff just yet as we are doing a bit of work on our downstairs rooms, but we hope to be out ice climbing and / or ski touring on the weekend of 6/7th December.
